Friday Update 9/20

Happy Friday all!

We have made it through our first month of 7th grade~ Hopefully pretty painlessly at that!

This week in LA arts we have started our first novel of the year “Red Scarf Girl” a story written from a young girls perspective during China’s Cultural Revolution. We also began work in the accompanying booklet that we will be completing alongside the novel for the next four weeks…a heavily weighted assignment. With the novel we will have a weekly set of vocabulary words. The word list and information about the book can be found on the Language Arts page of the blog. We have also been starting our state MAPS testing to identify where students are in their writing and reading at the start of the year…and to track growth throughout. We ended the week with our first Red Scarf Girl/Vocab Quiz.

In SS we have been learning how to properly use an atlas buy doing an atlas scavenger hunt and comprehension questions. Later in the week we started our first official medieval unit with China and the struggles of running such a gigantic country hundreds of years ago. And from now to the end of the year, every Friday we will be spent listening to current event presentations.

For homework this weekend: students need to read pages 37-51 and write a summary of the reading.

Coming up next week:
Mon: Back to school night
Tues: Picture Day
Fri: Cookie Dough forms need to be returned.

I believe that is it for this week, have a great weekend!
Ms. J
